Course/Module description:
The course will focus on the clinical interview: individual and family background, mental status examination, structured vs. unstructured interviews, ethics in interviewing, written report. Students will also get acquainted with three instruments of assessment: Bender II, Projective Drawings (HTP) and Wechsler Intelligence test.

Course/Module aims:
Conducting a clinical interview. Learning the theoretical foundations of Bender, Projective Drawings and Wechsler tests, and the administration, scoring and interpretation of the tests.

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
On successful completion of this module students should be able to conduct a clinical interview and provide a written report. They will also be able to administrate, score, interpret and provide a written report of the Bender, Projective Drawings and Wechsler tests.

Attendance requirements(%):
90% attendance requirements in the small groups.

Teaching arrangement and method of instruction: Frontal lectures and teaching in small groups.

Course/Module Content:
Lesson 1 – Introduction, course plan. The aims of the clinical interview, structured vs. unstructured interviews, basic principles. Interview stages: opening, contract, confidentiality, presenting problem.
Lesson 2 – The interview: rapport, empathy and reflection. Social and individual history, psychiatric background and traumatic events.
Lesson 3 – Medical history: past and current medical problems, somatization. Medical status examination. Summary and recommendations.
Lesson 4 – Bender. History and theoretical background. Reliability and validity. Organic, developmental and emotional approaches to the instrument.
Lesson 5 – Bender. Organic and emotional indicators.
Lesson 6 – Bender. Recall phase, written report, case illustrations.
Lesson 7 – Projective Drawings: developmental and emotional interpretations of the test.
Lesson 8 – Projective Drawings: case illustrations.
Lesson 9 – Wechsler. History, theoretical background, administration.
Lesson 10 – Wechsler. Intelligence factor, interpreting index/subtest fluctuations. Interpretation of performance and verbal subtests.
Lesson 11 – Wechsler. Index description and interpretation.
Lesson 12 – Wechsler. Gender differences, verbal and performance discrepancies according to age and socio-economic status. The written report.
Lesson 13 – Case illustrations including the three tests (integration).
