Course/Module description:
*Course/Module description
In recent years there is “explosion” of scientific studies (and the establishment of startup companies). Their common goal is to enhance human cognition. The tool – training with a specific task in order to improve other abilities. The training is aimed at various populations: the elderly (slowing down cognitive decline), population with specific disabilities (attention deficit, reading problems), and the general population. These studies are based on the premise of generalization across tasks and stimuli. But, is this assumption valid? This topic had raised a huge debate both in the scientific literature and in the popular press. In this course we will read together scientific studies works, discuss the required controls and the meaning of a control groups in general. In the second part of the course we will administer and analyze a learning experiment, and examine generalization, and discuss implications.
