Course/Module description:
The course will deal with the descriptions of the mystical experience and of the structure of the divine world through erotic symbolism in medieval Kabbalah against the background of philosophical concepts of eros drawing on which they developed.
Course/Module aims:
The course aims at introducing the students to the variety of ontological and epistemological concepts of eros in ancient Greek philosophy, their adaptation by medieval Arabic and Jewish philosophy and their transposition into a mystical key by medieval Kabbalists.
Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
On successful completion of this course students should be able to identify links between ancient Greek, medieval Arabic and Jewish philosophical sources and medieval Kabbalah, based on profound acquaintance with relevant concepts and terminology.
