Course/Module description:
The course will combine a thorough discussion on the qualitative research with personal experience with collection, interpretation and analysis of knowledge created during the research, and writing a preliminary research paper based on this knowledge. We will review various approaches to qualitative research, such as field work, case study, and grounded theory, and focus on methods of observation, interview, and text analysis. We will examine how these methods stem from the research approaches and affect the final products of the research. In addition, we will discuss the ethical responsibility in qualitative research, in relation to “subjects” and “informants”, and critically discuss the ability of qualitative research to contribute to the examination of social action compared to quantitative research methods in social sciences.

Course/Module aims:
The objective of this course is to introduce the students with the qualitative research and to experiment with its research methods.

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:

To apply the qualitative research tools in an independent research
