Course/Module description:
The field of child abuse evolved throughout the years and knew far-reaching changes. The Understanding that children at risk are not a small minority and that the phenomenon is more widespread than commonly thought in the past, led to the development of diagnostic tools and treatment, as well as broad statutory change.
The course will focus on the on the historical development of the status and rights of children victims of abuse and neglect, both on social and legal sphere.
Special emphasis will be given to the different categories of abuse and methods of identification and initial screening of children at risk.

Course/Module aims:
The aim of the course is to expose students to the world of treatment and legal systems surrounding children at risk in Israel. Special emphasis will be given to understanding the Rights of the Child, the various types of abuse, methods of identification of children at risk and developing strategies and solutions.

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
1. Basic understanding of the essential children’s rights
2. Understanding the different types of abuse
3. Basic understanding of therapeutic and legal solutions for children at risk
4. Basic understanding of how to tackle the phenomenon: detection, identification and prevention.
