Course/Module description:
This course is aimed at providing knowledge regarding executive functions that are defined as high level cognitive processes that are use in daily function in a complex and dynamic manner. The course will present definitions and types of executive functions and we will discuss aspects such as initiative, self checking, control, emotional regulation and delayed response. Emphasis will also be placed on daily executive functions in typical individuals, as well as those with difficulties. Assessment and intervention strategies will also be addressed.

Course/Module aims:
1. Provide knowledge of theoretic background of executive functions
2. Introduction to the roll of executive functions in rehabilitation
3. Provide knowledge of assessment and intervention for individuals with executive functioning difficulties
4. Provide methods for in depth reading of scientific literature in the field

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
1. Describe aspects of executive functions and their relationship to function
2.Identify different types of executive functioning difficulties
3. Discuss the different expressions of executive functioning difficulties on daily function
4. Present accepted methods of assessment and select the appropriate method for the appropriate population using clinical reasoning skills
5. Present intervention methods depended on assessment findings
6. Analyse and critique research available in the field

1. Definitions, theoretic perspectives, impact on function
2. Developmental aspects of executive functions
3. Health in relation to executive functions (TBI, attention and concentration, schizophrenia)
4. Neuropsychological and ecological testing
5. Intervention approached for executive function difficulties (remedial/ skills training/ task adaptations)
6. Integrating research and practice
