Course/Module description:
This course focuses on an in depth understanding of cancer, and specifically breast cancer. We will explore different aspect of the medical treatment and enhancing the unique role of occupational therapy in assessment and treatment of women coping with breast cancer at its different stages.

Course/Module aims:
Provide knowledge of medical and rehabilitation treatment for women coping with breast cancer
Provide tool for assessment and treatment of women coping with breast cancer

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
Definitions, risk factors, and classification of cancer in general, and specifically breast cancer
Medical treatment of cancer in relation to side effects of the different interventions
The role of the multi-disciplinary team in the treatment of women with breast cancer
The effects of breast cancer on function and body functions
Occupational therapy assessment and intervention for women coping with breast cancer during the illness and during remission
Exposure to studies done in Israel by occupational therapists in the field of breast cancer
Discussion of developing and implementing occupational therapy services for the breast cancer population

Teaching arrangement and method of instruction: Lectures and discussions in class

Course/Module Content:
• Definition, risk factors, classification of cancer in general and breast cancer in particular.
• Medical treatment of breast cancer while referring to the side effects of the various treatments.
• The role of a multidisciplinary team in the treatment of women facing breast cancer.
• Consequences of breast cancer on function and body structures and functions.
• Assessment and intervention in occupational therapy with women dealing with breast cancer both in the
disease phase and in the recovery phase.
• Exposure to studies that are carried out in Israel by occupational therapists.
• Discussion of ways to develop and implement occupational therapy services for the population dealing with
breast cancer.
