Course/Module description:
This course focuses on evidence based practice in the field of assistive technology, seating and mobility. The course is based on theoretic models and up to date research in the above fields and allows students to practice clinical assessments. The course covers accepted international terminology for seating for a variety of populations with special needs across the lifespan. Upon completion of the course, occupational and physio therapists with be able to base their clinical thinking on models, research and assessments.
Course/Module aims:
1. To provide theoretic knowledge of assistive technology, seating and mobility in a variety of populations with special needs
2. Expose student to assessment tools for assistive technology, seating and mobility
3. Introduction to international terminology
Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
- Apply theory models of assistive technology for clinical intervention
- select and use assessment tools for assistive technology, seating and mobility
- understand evidence based articles in the fields of assistive technology, seating and mobility
- Analyse types of seating and understand typical and atypical seating
- Recommend a manual and electric wheelchair
