Course/Module description:
The course deals with topics relevant to the rehabilitation process for individuals with a variety of neurological injuries. The course will expand knowledge of occupational therapy assessment and intervention for this population
Course/Module aims:
1. Introduce students to common neurological illnesses and their characteristics
2. Provide students with an understanding of a variety of neurological injuries
3. Provide knowledge of assessment and intervention for individuals with limitations due to neurological injury and the clinical reasoning necessary in the OT process
Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
1. Identify different health states due to neurological injury
2. describe the characteristics of individuals with a variety of different neurological injuries
3. describe areas of assessment and relevant assessment tools for neurological rehabilitation
4. describe models of intervention use in occupational therapy in neurological rehabilitation
5. describe and explain clinical reasoning for case studies
6. discuss the topic of sexual function in spinal cord injuries

Semester I:
1. Assessment and intervention after brain injury: stroke, traumatic brain injury
2. Rehabilitation of neuro-degenerative illnesses: Guillain barre syndrome .Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), Parkinson’s disease
Semester II:
3. Rehabilitation of spinal cord injury
