Course/Module description:
This course covers different perspectives of the process of assessment and intervention in occupational therapy through clinical thinking. This course will cover the characteristics of assessment tools and present psychometric concepts of them. The course will allow students to become familiar with the tools through using them.
Course/Module aims:
- Develop awareness of the importance of assessment and evaluation in the process of OT intervention
- Introduce a range of tools that investigate occupational profile, participation, and occupational performance in different occupations and populations
- develop critique skills of assessment tool
Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
- Define the stages of assessment using a client centred, occupational based approach
- Compare different approaches including top-down and bottom-up
- Critique the characteristics of assessment tools according to their goals, population, rationales, theoretic basis, advantages, disadvantages, standardisation and psychometric properties
- analyse assessment tools according to the occupational profile, participation and occupational performance
- recommend the appropriate assessment tool for a case study

Additional information:
- Assessment tools will be presented in groups of 3-4 students
- Each member of the groups is required to participate in the presentation of the tool
- Pass mark is 70%
- Students must achieve 60% or higher in the final exam in order to pass the course
