Course/Module description:
This course the processes of basic social/emotional development of an infant and toddler through use of models and environmental factors. The course will relate to central developmental theories of psychiatric pediatric occupational therapy. Attention will be paid to clinical thinking related to parents,surroundings, normal develop and the potential of working with parents to promote the development of children at risk. The course will also relate to basic principles of assessment and intervention in pediatric psychiatric occupational therapy.
Course/Module aims:
1. To introduce the setting of occupational therapy for children with emotional conditions
2. To provide knowledge of theories of development and the role of occupational therapy for children with emotional disorders
3. To provide knowledge of intervention methods to promote the parent/child interaction for children as risk of emotional disorders
4. To provide knowledge of sensory and emotional regulation intervention
Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
1. Collect information from relevant sources to build a sensory profile of a child
2. Identify inherent and environmental factors that influence a children emotional development
3. Explain functional emotional difficulties based of their inherent sensory profile
4. Assess the parent-child interaction
5. Plan an intervention program for children with emotional difficulties
