Course/Module description:
The course will focus on understanding the body of knowledge of early childhood, child and youth psychiatry and the various treatment options with an emphasis on occupational therapy treatment. The course will include lectures by lecturers from various fields in early childhood, child and youth psychiatry.

Course/Module aims:
1. To introduce to a clinical basis in early childhood, child and adolescent psychiatry.
2. Introduce tools for observation, evaluation and diagnosis at the above-mentioned ages, as well as for evaluating the parent-child interaction.
3. Introduce different approaches to treatment underling occupational therapy interventions in mental health.
4. Link the theory to the occupational therapy practis at these ages through case studies.

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
To define a diagnostic clinical basis, including differential diagnosis, for mental, emotional and behavioral disorders in child and adolescent psychiatry.
● Identify different mental states in children and youth and understand the effect of the mental state on functioning, behavior and interaction with the parent.
● Demonstrate clinical thinking in occupational therapy that connects the bodies of psychiatric knowledge and occupational therapy treatment in various mental states in children and youth.

Teaching arrangement and method of instruction: Lectures, readings, case studies analysis and discussions

Course/Module Content:
1. Introduction to child and adolescent psychiatry, the concept of childhood, the psychiatric examination of children and youth and the therapeutic model
2.Psychiatric interview, giving a diagnosis, consequences and methods of treatment
3. Tools for observation, assessment and diagnosis at the various ages mentioned above, as well as for the assessment of parent-child interaction.
4. Approaches to treatment which can form a basis for treatment in psychiatric occupational therapy in theory and through case studies
