Course/Module description:
In this course, students with learn the central models and approaches to mental health in occupational therapy including an introduction to its application in the clinical field. Focus will be place on the individual characteristics of occupational therapy intervention in mental health in terms of treatment and rehabilitation.
Course/Module aims:
1. To instill in the students and understanding of the connection between participation in occupations, functional limitations, quality of life and mental health
2. To present central approaches and models of occupational therapy in mental health.
3. To introduce students to principles of occupational therapy intervention in mental health in terms of the models and approaches learnt in the course.
4. Introduce students to the intervention process in OT in mental health
5. Introduce students to the variety of intervention options in the health system and community
6. Central characteristics of treatment
Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
1. To identify and describe emotional issues affecting function in terms of the person, occupation and environment
2. To demonstrate theoretic understanding of different models, explain and describe terms, concepts and clinical reasoning in a comparative and integrative manner
3. To characterize the individual aspects of approaches to occupational therapy intervention in mental health
4. To describe the different approaches of mental health in the clinical field

Lectures, discussion,s movies, case studies, tasks, peer learning, interviews with different factors in the clinical field
Course/Module Content:
1. Review of changes in the field and its impacts on the mental health service provision in Israel and the world in terms of medicine, laws and culture
2. The relationship between mental health, mental deficits, functional impact, participation and quality of life
3. The rationale and process of occupational therapy intervention in mental health
4. Introduction to models, theoretic rationale, foundation concepts, principles of intervention
5. Introduction to the association and types of application of occupational therapy in mental health in Israel
