Course/Module description:
This course deals with issues relating to internal medicine. Topics will cover basic methods of assessment and monitoring, common illnesses and general treatment methods. The course is an important knowledge base for further learning and application in occupational therapy treatment with people dealing with health conditions in the field of internal medicine.
Course/Module aims:
1. Introduce students to foundation concepts of internal medicine
2. Introduce students to basic approaches to the patient and the medical admission structure.
3. Provide knowledge of common illnesses and their pathology, diagnosis, risk factors, prognosis and prevention
4. Introduce students to common medications and their side effects
5. Introduce students to methods of diagnosis and treatment monitoring
Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
1. Describe different areas of internal medicine
2. Define and describe foundation concepts in internal medicine
3. Describe basic approach to the patient and the medical admission process.
4. Identify common medications and their side effects
5. Identify and describe methods of assessment and monitoring
6. Describe common illnesses in terms of pathology, diagnosis, risk factors, treatment, prognosis and prevention
