Course/Module description:
The course consists of actual clinical case presentations, from various fields of oral medicine: diseases of the oral mucosa, salivary gland pathology, facial pain and jaw bone pathology and treatment of the systemically complex patient and emergency situations in dentistry.
All cases involve different uses of imaging methods. The students are exposed to the difficulties in obtaining an accurate diagnosis from a differential diagnosis, combining all the basic and clinical knowledge acquired during the clinical years in the fields of oral medicine. In addition to differential diagnosis training, the format is of course used as a practical preparation for the government licensing exam.

Course/Module aims:
• Provide the student with the skills to diagnose pathological conditions in the oral cavity, salivary glands, facial pain and jaw area and using different imaging methods.
• To be able to perform a structured and informed differential diagnosis, in order to reach, if possible, an accurate diagnosis and in the next step to decide when a patient must be referred for further examination, diagnosis and treatment by an expert in the field.

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
1. Distinguish between a pathological and a normal state
2. to accurately describe the pathology by using various imaging methods available to them
3. comprehensive analysis of clinical data in order to formulate a differential diagnosis.
4. assess patient's needs for additional medical tests.
5. interpret all the data and decide whether the patient can be treated by the general dentist or should be referred for further investigation and treatment by a specialist
