Course/Module description:
Treating patients

Course/Module aims:
Enhancing skills in basic periodontics

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
Study the patient’s periodontal problems and document them thoroughly
Make a diagnosis and suggest a treatment plan for patients with mild- moderate periodontal diseases
To carry out the initial therapy - oral hygiene instructions and debridement
To evaluate the results of his/her own treatment
This course supports the following HUHSDM professional practice competencies: 1.1, 1.5, 2.1,2.4, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 3.9


Attendance requirements(%):
100%

Teaching arrangement and method of instruction: The requirements of the second half include treating minimum 3 cases of plaque induced gingivitis, including reevaluation. At least one case with level 3 difficulty
During the clinic the instructors will follow the activity of each student paying attention to their proper use of instruments, infection control and safe management
At the end of each stage the instructor must evaluate the performance and approve it by his/her signature

Prerequisite: Successful completion of course 97761 in the first semester

Parameters for evaluation:
1. knowledge
2. Clinical skills
3. Rate of progress, attitude to patient, order at work, attentive to instructions

Threshold for passing the course:
1. passing grade in each parameter of the clinical evaluation
2. Treating minimum 3 cases of plaque induced gingivitis including reevaluation. At least one case with level 3 difficulty
3. Passing the treatment plan and oral hygiene instruction exam
4. Attendance at all clinics
