Course/Module description:
The course is given to small groups of students (6). It is a clinical oriented course with mainly bed side teaching. We teach the clinical approach to hematological problems, the therapeutic approach and common side effects. The patients are in-patients as well as ambulatory patients (day care, clinics). We use interactive seminars to discuss the following issues: coagulation and bleeding, anemia, thrombocytosis and thrombocytopenia, biology and clinical approach to hematological malicnancies, multiple myeloma, morphology, blood banking, bone marrow transplant.
Course/Module aims:
We aim to teach bedside knowledge of the common as well as exceptional critical medical situations that the future doctor may diagnose or be involved in the treatment of. Understanding the science behind the medical event and the importance in the correct diagnosis and clinical approach is critical for the future doctor. Examples: diagnosis of acute leukemia on a dental exam (gingival hypertrophy), an approach to the bleeding patient. We also focus on physical examination.

Teaching arrangement and method of instruction:
The course takes place in the hematology and bone marrow department, as well as in the day-care and the outpatient clinics. The students join the staff, as well as admit patients for further discussion. The student will join the staff meetings. Seminars are also given.
