Course/Module description:
Aquisition of basic knowledge in pediatrics

Course/Module aims:
To take a clinical history and examination and to diagnose most of the common pediatric diagnoses

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
1.The student will learn to diagnose common diseases in pediatrics including differential diagnosis and prognosis
2.The student will learn to choose an appropriate treatment protocol for the clinical situation.

3. THe student will learn the risks and success rate of each treatment

4.The student will learn to interpret clear and common findings in laboratory investigations and imaging studies

Teaching arrangement and method of instruction: Frontal teaching and bedside

Course/Module Content:
1) Normal and pathological growth and development from birth to adolescence
2) Preventative pediatric medicine and vaccinations including the Israeli table of vaccinations
3) Nutrition: nutritional needs, breast milk feeding vs. formula including vitamin deficiencies
4) Fluid and electrolytes: pathophysiology and treatment in emergency conditions
5) Neglected and battered children
6) Genetic principles and frequent genetic abnormalities
7) Pediatric emergency care
8) Approach to a child with metabolic disease
9) The healthy and sick child
(the high risk child; asphyxia; post prematurity etc.)
10) Frequent problems in adolescent medicine
11) Immunological and Allergic diaseases
12) Rheumatology of the child
13) Infectious diseases
14) Gastrointestinal diseases
15) Respiratory diseases
16) Cardiovascular disease
17) Hematological diseases
18) Oncology
19) Renal diseases
20) Endocrinology
21) Neurology
22) Frequent ophthalmology dermatology and ENT diseases of children
23) Frequent orthopedic diseases of children
