Course/Module description:
The Course for General Orthopedics for fifth year medical students, is given at the four campuses (Hadassah Ein Kerem, Hadassah Mount Scopus, Kaplan Medical Center and Shaare Zedek Medical Center)
The duration of the course is three weeks, according to student groups.

Course/Module aims:
Teach basic orthopedic surgery at the level required by every general practitioner and identifying situations where an orthopedic surgeon intervention is needed.
In addition, basic experience in surgical skills (sutures, etc.) and orthopedics.

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
At the end of the course, the students should be able to:
1. Take orthopedic history and perform an orthopedic physical examination.
2. Understand the pathophysiology of the more common orthopedic problems.
3. Basic management of orthopedic patients including diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to musculoskeletal disorders (both conservative and surgical).
4. Identify orthopedic emergencies and optimize treatment accordingly.
5. Understanding the relationship between orthopedic care and other medical fields.
6. Exposure to the orthopedic system, in both the clinical and research aspects.

Course/Module Content:
Basic Orthopedics - Introduction to Fractures, Hip and Distal Radius Fractures, Ankle Sprains
Shoulder Orthopedics - Shoulder instability, discharges, Rotator cuff tears
Pediatric Orthopedics - DDH, Partes, SCFE, transient synovitis, elbow dislocation, supracondylar fractures
Hand Orthopedics - CMC OA, Carpal Canal, Trigger Finger
Foot Orthopedics - Diabetic Foot, Charcot Disease, Flat Foot, Hallux valgus
Spine Orthopedics - Fractures, degenerative diseases, discopathy, whiplash, back pain, spinal infections
Sports Orthopedics - Tears in the anterior cruciate ligament, Meniscus tears, labrum tears
Oncology Orthopedics
Joint replacement - OA of hip and knee joints, AVN
