Course/Module description:
A course for teaching Obstetrics and Gynecology to medical students in the fifth year. The course is taught in the four campuses (Hadassah Ein Kerem, Hadassah Mount Scopus, Kaplan Medical Center, Shaare Zedek Medical Center).

Duration: 6 weeks, students are divided to different groups and each group arrives at the department at a designated time.

Course/Module aims:
• To teach basic knowledge in OBGYN, which is required by every physician.
• Improve physician-patient communication and communication skills within the team.
• Exposure to OBGYN and set the basis for future professional decision making (final work, research, internship, etc.).

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
• The student will describe women's health in the normal / healthy / normal life cycle) in anatomy, physiology, endocrinology in each of the sub-topics (midwifery, gynecology and fertility)
• The student will explain and elaborate, in medical professional terms, the different pathologies and conduct a (common) case study based on the clinical knowledge and thinking he has acquired. In all cases, the student will address aspects of professionalism (interpersonal communication, teamwork, multiculturalism).
• The student will take medical history with good interpersonal communication skills in conducting the medical interview.

Teaching arrangement and method of instruction: Evening rounds (classes), bedside teaching in the wards, clinics, operating rooms, emergency rooms and delivery room.
ZOOM staff meetings and classes.

Obstetrics:
Prenatal diagnosis and follow-up of normal pregnancy and birth
Diagnosis and management of pregnancy at risk, including maternal illnesses and emergency conditions during pregnancy
Labor and delivery and post-partum

Gynecology:
Anatomy and Embryology
Abnormal vaginal bleeding
Abdominal / pelvic pain
Pelvic mass
Pelvic organ prolapse
Urine incontinence
Vaginal discharge, itching and STDs
Acute pelvic inflammation
Vaginal lesions
Pre-menstrual syndrome
Trophoblast diseases

Fertility and Endocrinology:
Early maturation
Amenorrhea
Irregular ovulation / circulatory disorder
Hyperandrogenism, obesity, and Hirsutism
The infertile couple
IVF
Ovarian Stimulation Syndrome
Conservation of fertility for medical reasons
Recurrent pregnancy loss
Family planning and birth control
Menopause

Additional information:
A national syllabus for women's medical studies and for the state exam is presented on the course website at Moodle.

During the clinical clerkship, the student will prepare a Journal Club.

The composition of the departmental grade will be based on the following items:

• Final clerkship eamination (60%)
• Journal club (10%)
• Impression 20%
• Attendance and completing the skill log requirements 10%

The final grade will be composed by the national written examination score (65%) and the departmental score (35%).

Each student will have to get a passing grade in both the final departmental grade and the national examination as a prerequisite to get a course score.
