Course/Module description:
The Geriatrics clerckship provides the students with the basic principles, values and tools for treating every old man, healthy or sick with emphasis on the uniqness of old age and the important steps for maintaining healthy aging

Course/Module aims:
-Develop professionalism and approach towards aged people and future patients
-Enable students with basic competencies in geriatrics and gerontology
-Expose students to future learning tools for continuing self education, mainataining doubt and criticism and promote discussion of ethical dillemas of elderly lives

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
-Identify and manage common geriatric problems including acute, subacute and chronic, in the community and the hospital
-Understand the physiological changes in aging
-Understand the complex and unique clinical presentation of disease in the elderly
-Recognize the main services for old people (acute medical care, subacute care, home hospitalozation, skilled nursing facilities, long term care and care for dementia
-Understand the major geriatric syndromes
-Implement the principles of palliative and end of life care
-Recognize the importance of family support of the older person, of autonomy and compassion, of multidisciplinary team work

-Principles of the Geriatric approach, criticism of the literature and approach to Multimorbidity and Polypharmacy
-Social security Nursing Law and services
-Dementia community care & day care services
