Course/Module description:
Medical Humanities is an academic field combining subjects from the social sciences and the humanities, with the aim of emphasizing the human aspects of the doctor's work. The far-reaching scientific and technological developments that characterize modern medicine emphasize the need for movement towards the humanities and social sciences in order to advance the renewed challenges of: physician-patient communication, medical ethics with patients and families exposed to a wealth of information and choice, multiculturalism and values ​​of quality of life, Respect for the patient, treatment relieves suffering and the ability to develop compassion.

Course/Module aims:
Goals of the program
Upon graduation, the student completing his studies will be able to complete his studies
1. Use the knowledge and perceptions taken from social sciences, humanities and behavioral sciences to deal with the health problems of patients and their families.
2. Communicate effectively with patients and their families and is based on the principles of effective communication.
3. Consider cultural factors that affect the patient (cultural competency).
4. Identify and analyze ethical issues in the context of medical care.
5. Recognize and internalize professional behavior, which is expected of a doctor who deals with the medical profession in Israel.

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
At the end of the course, the students will be able to conduct a medical interview based on the Cambridge Calgary model they have studied. They will be able to interview patients with an emphasis on background and cultural influences on their medical condition and to analyze issues in medical ethics according to the models studied in the course.
