Course/Module description:
The course will teach a wide variety of neuroscience sub-fields at a high level.
The course will be divided into 4 submodules:
1. Molecular neuroscience
2. Cellular neuroscience
3. Systems neuroscience
4. Medical neuroscience

Course/Module aims:
Students will acquire a deep understanding of the type of questions and experimental/theoretical approaches that form each of the neuroscience subfields.

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
Students should be able to critically read papers in any of these subfields. Additionally, students should be able to combine approaches from the different subfields into their own research projects.

Attendance requirements(%):
90

Teaching arrangement and method of instruction: Frontal

Course/Module Content:
Molecular neuroscience:
1. Cell biology of the neuron. (axonal transport, protein synthesis at the dendrite etc.)
2. Neuroglia - diversity and function.

Cellular neuroscience:
1. Synaptic release - properties that are not well explained by calcium.

Systems neuroscience:
1. Single neuron codes – rate and timing.
2. Population codes – population vectors vs. projection of firing onto neuronal space.
