Course/Module description:
The content of this course will be focused on advanced practice nursing in the world and in Israel. Evidence and research will be presented related to the theoretical and practical application of advanced practice models of care: academic preparation, research, roles and functions, and evaluation of advanced practice nursing in the world. Students will become familiar with different approaches to implementing APN roles: clinician, educator, consultant, researcher, and administration/leaders within the framework of various health care services.

Course/Module aims:
The goal of the course is for the student to develop a self-identity as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) using theoretical models and role models of local and international APNs. Students will discuss the roles of the APN using evidence-based literature and integrate this into their identity as an APN. Students will examine factors influencing their successful career development and implementation. Students will develop expertise in ethical processing of clinical problems.

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
Objectives:
At the end of the course the student will:
1)Demonstrate knowledge of the different roles and competencies required of the APN
2)Discuss the components of selected role/duties in advanced practice nursing (some may overlap):
a.Clinician (NP, CNS, CRNA, CNM)
b.Consultant
c.Educator
d.Researcher
e.Leadership
3)Analyze the health care service environment and the contribution of advanced practice nursing roles with economic and quality of life indicators.
4)Discuss the factors/barriers that affect the introduction of the advanced practice nursing roles in acute and chronic care and other therapeutic environments.
5)Develop a personal role identity as an advanced practice nurse (APN), establish the need for such a role, and begin the first stage of role introduction.
6)Analyze ethical clinical challenges of APNs utilizing the ethical processing model by Tracy & O’Grady.

Attendance requirements(%):
100% attendance
•Mandatory attendance according to the university regulations.
•All classes will be live (not on zoom).
•PRIOR permission to miss a class or attend late is required.
•Class language is English; submitted papers may be written in English or Hebrew. (Use of English editor is allowed for submitted papers)
