Course/Module description:
Students will analyze the various roles of the Advanced Practice Nurse in light of the
realities of the health care environment in Israel and the world. Practical approaches
to fulfilling these roles such as educator, consultant, researcher, and clinical manager
in the health care environment will be developed.

Course/Module aims:
The objective of this course is to introduce to the MSc clinical masters students the varied main roles for the advanced practice nurse and to expose them to role models in the field. The integration of national and international APN role paradigms with change agent theory and leadership paradigms will be offered as well as the challenges to the role in the areas of ethical dilemmas and national health trends.

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
1. Discuss the roles of the Advanced Practice Nurse:
(a) Educator
(b) Clinician
(c) Consultant
(d) Researcher
(e) Administrator
2. Analyze the realities of the health care environment and their implications on the
roles of the Advanced Practice Nurse.
3. Analyze factors which influence the implementation of the role of the Advanced
Practice Nurse across the continuum of care and a changing environment.
4. Develop personal marketing abilities as an Advanced Practice Nurse.

Course/Module Content:
The historical development of Advanced Practice Nursing roles
- Description of the roles associated with advanced practice
- Presentations of those who perform advanced practice roles including case
manager, research coordinator, group leader (clients and families), unit and
professional consultant.
- Discussions of legal, ethical, and other professional aspects of the roles
