Course/Module description:
This course will concentrate on health promotion from the perspective of the
advanced practice nurse. The course will contain content related to theories of
health promotion at the level of the individual and the community with attention to
factors associated with health promoting behavior in wellness and illness. The
perspectives of equity, decency, and mutual respect will be presented as the basis
for activities associated with health promotion.

Course/Module aims:
To provide the student with knowledge in the foundations of health promotion at the level of the individual and the community with attention to
factors associated with health promoting behavior in wellness and illness.

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
1. Understand the accepted theories in the area of health promotion at the level of
the individual and the community.
2. Evaluate health promotion and health education programs.
3. Apply theoretical knowledge associated with health promotion and health
education at the level of the individual, group and community.
4. Connect health promotion and health behavior education with the role of the
advanced practice nurse.
5. Critically read articles about health promotion programs.

Definition of health promotion, basic concepts and factors that influence health
promotion
- Approaches to health promotion: individual and community
- Health promotion program evaluation
- Models of behavioral change and health education
- Content related to health promotion of the healthy and the ill:nutrition;physical activity; Forensic nursing;ethics;;safety;ecology;;continiuity of care from hospital to community, community resieliance
