Course/Module description:
The course will provide basic concepts in epidemiology and will illustrate epidemiological thinking in the analysis of health problems of the population, focusing on health determinants at different levels of prevention and risk factors for disease.
Course/Module aims:
Imparting knowledge in basic terms of epidemiology, developing epidemiological thinking abilities, and imparting basic tools and skills in research analysis.
1. Knowledge of basic concepts in epidemiology
2. Evaluating the health status of the population, while focusing on the calculation of morbidity , mortality and association measurement
3. Developing an understanding ability of epidemiological articles
4. Understanding the application of epidemiology on the interventions at different preventative levels.
Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
1. Describe the basic concepts used in epidemiology
2. Describe the historical development of epidemiology as a science
3. Assess the distribution of morbidity and risk factors for morbidity among different populations
4. Demonstrate the use of the epidemiological approach to preventing morbidity and promoting health
5. Calculate a risk estimate and a risk index and to understand the significance of the relationship between exposure and output
6. Discard the results of the relationship between exposure to the outcome and the public health policy
7. Identify types of epidemiological research arrays
8. Describe and calculate the epidemiological indices for measuring health and illness phenomena in the population
9. Recognize processes that distort the relationship between exposure and outcome
10. To describe and compute indices that estimate the survey tests
11. To classify preventive levels according to the developmental stage of the disease
12. Describe processes in an epidemiological investigation.
