Course/Module description:
The course will focus in teaching common mental health disorders over the lifespan, the legal and ethical aspects and principles of nursing mental health care in acute and chronic conditions,during hospitalization and community care.
Course/Module aims:
1.Broadening the knowledge base and nursing skills pertaining to Mental Health Nursing.
2.Acquiring basic skills of theraputic communication and client-nurse relationship while caring for the mentally disabled person.
3.developing skills of the nursing process suitable for the mental health field.
4.Recognition of the laws, regulations and protocols as well as ethical issues pertaining to mental health patients.
Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
1.Have the ability to differentiate between the continuum of mental health and illness according to professional definitions and descriptions.
2.Explain symptoms of mental disorders and the implication on wellbeing and life quality for the patient and its family
3.Note the appropriate data assessment obtained from clients, family members,
4.documents and laboratory findings that are utilized for the basis of treatment
5.Choose and explain the appropriate treatment approach for the client / family in various mental health situations
6.Note situations that require action according to the law

1.Significant characteristics of approach and methods in mental health diagnosis and treatment in a historical perspective
2.Diagnosis and classification of mental health disorders, signs and symptoms and mental status assessment.
3.Coping strategies of a patient with Schizophrenic and other psychotic disorders
4.Coping strategies of a patient with Mood disorders
5.coping stategies of a patient with anxiety and stress related disorders
6. coping strategies of a patient with eating disorder
7. coping strategies of a patient with alcohol and/or sustance use disorder.
8. coping stategies of the patient with personality disorder
9.coping stategies of neurocognetive and psychoorganic disorder.
10.psychopharmacologie, E.C.T, and health promotion.
11.Dynamic, supportive, behavioral, biologic treatment approaches.
12.theraputic patient-nurse relationship.
13.Approaches in nursing interventions related to specific clinical situations.
14.recovery and rehabilitation of the mentally disabeld person in the community setings.

Additional information:
1. Performence of a test and a rolling scenario during the course as a part of a final grade.
The test's score is up to 10 points (cumulative score)from the final grade, as well as the scenario score (up to 10 points,cumulative score).
The total score of the test and the scenario considers as 20 points of the final grade. The subjects of the test and the scenario will appear on the final exam.
The performance of the test and the scenario will be given only one time. (No second date will be given)
2.Final exam is 80% of the final grade in the course.

The exam will include 50 multiple choice questions.
