Course/Module description:
The course will focus in teaching common mental health disorders over the lifespan, and the legal, ethical aspects and principles of nursing care in acute and chronic states, hospitalization and community care

Course/Module aims:
1.Broadening the knowledge base and nursing skills pertaining to Mental Health Nursing.
2.Acquiring skills to develop awareness and an approach to nursing care inclients that suffer distress or mental disorders
3.Recognition of the laws pertaining to mental health patients and the law of Rehabilitation Disability pertaining to mental health patients in the community.
4.Recognition of specific protocols in the area of mental health.

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
1.Have the ability to differentiate between the continuum of mental health and illness according to professional definitions and descriptions.
2.Explain symptoms of mental disorders.
3.Note the appropriate data assessment obtained from clients, family members,
4.documents and laboratory findings that are utilized for the basis of treatment
5.Choose and explain the appropriate treatment approach for the client / family in various mental health situations
6.Note situations that require action according to the law

Teaching arrangement and method of instruction: •Frontal lectures

•simulations of clinical situations that depict mental health issues.

Course/Module Content:
1.Significant changes in approach and methods in mental health diagnosis and treatment in a historical perspective
2.Diagnosis and classification of mental health disorders, signs and symptoms and mental status assessment.
3.Coping strategies of a patient with Schizophrenic and other psychotic disorders Toward Rehabilitation and recovery.
4.Coping strategies of a patient with Mood disorders
5.Dynamic, supportive, behavioral, biologic treatment approaches.
6.Eating disorders.
7.Addiction to psycho-active substances.
8.Coping strategies of a patient with Anxiety disorders
9.Adaptation difficulties: personality disorders
10.Bio-psychological treatments: Psycho-pharmacology, ECT and health promotion.
11."Laws and Regulations Pertaining to Mental Health Patients". "Disability Laws of the Mental Health Patients in the Community". Legal/Ethical aspects of the nursing care to the mentally ill as per the laws and regulation.
12.Introduction to Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy
13.Psycho-organic syndromes
14.Client – nurse relationship including interactive learning kit
15.Emergencies in psychiatry, The national suicide prevention program.
16.Approaches in nursing interventions related to specific clinical situations.
