Course/Module description:
The translation of genetics research into meaningful clinical application is evolving at a pace that nursing educators who aspire to keep up with the proliferation of findings and outpacing clinicians' abilities to integrate this knowledge into day-to-day care management. This course will focus on basic concepts related to genetics of human disorders as perceived by the advanced practice nurse. The course will contain both theoretical and practical issues related to clinical practice of human genetics in the community and in the hospital.
Students will be exposed to new technologies that are implemented today in clinics and research.

Course/Module aims:
Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:

1. Understand the different modes of inheritance in human genetics.
2. Classify the different disorders into either monogenic, chromosomal polygenic etc.
3. Implement various methodological and diagnostic tools in clinical practice. familiarity of new technologies.
4. Focus on topics related to
• Prevention of Genetic Disease
• Genetic Testing and Treatment
• Genetic Counseling
• Treatment options in genetic diseases
