Course/Module description:
Discussions on selected issues, including physiological, morphological and molecular processes and endogenous and exogenous regulators, which determine and control fruit development and its quality in various species
Course/Module aims:
To expose the students to the various stages of fruit development and their control
Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
The students will gain understanding as to the basis of fruit development, and will be able to critically read scientific papers.

Obligatory attendance in guest and students lectures

Course/Module Content:
flower morphology, pollination and fertilization, fruit set, embryogenesis, control of fruit size and shape, the metabolic control of fruit development, parthenocarpic fruit set, breeding, alternate bearing, horticultural means to induce yield, fruit ripening, post-harvest processes
Required Reading:
Every week a new research paper will be given and all the students will read it at home and test on it and the material studied the following week. One of the students will lecture on the article.
