Course/Module description:
Course description: The course will deal with the important poultry infectious diseases with the emphasis on the disease agents, the symptoms, their treatment and prevention. The causing agents, bacteria, viruses and protozoa will be described

Course/Module aims:
To allow the students to understand the role of the infectious agents in the outbreaks of infectious disease in the poultry farms and to know the methods and means of diseases prevention and treatment.

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
understand the causing agents to the predominant infectious diseases of poultry in Israel, the use of diseases prevention and treatment.

Teaching arrangement and method of instruction: Frontal lectures

Course/Module Content:
1. Diseases caused by the bacteria Escherichia coli and Salmonella.
2. Diseases caused by the bacteria Salmonella spc. And Pasteurella multocida
3. Diseases caused by Mycoplasmas.
4. The disease caused by Newcastle disease virus and its prevention
5. The disease caused by avian influenza virus and its prevention
6. The disease caused by avian infectious bronchitis virus and its prevention
7. The diseases caused by avian herpes viruses, Marek's disease and Laryngo- tracheitis.
8. The disease caused by chicken infectious bursal disease virus and its prevention
9. The disease cause by infectious chicken anemia virus and its prevention.
10. Lab: Mycoplasma and tests for antibody titer determination.
11. Protozoa causing diseases in poultry, treatment and prevention.
12. Lab: Newcastle
13. The vaccination schedule recommendations by the veterinary authorities
