Course/Module description:
In our daily lives we continuously create and recreate common knowledge that is apparent and obvious to us all. Social institutions like the economy, politics, the family or the school serve as settings where people, based on that knowledge, interact with each other. In this course I will offer to uncover this taken-for-granted knowledge and turn it into observable. The science of Sociology and its analytical tools will serve as lenses to look at varied characters of our lives, like: education, the army, gender, social classes etc. Hopefully, this new knowledge that will be gained along the course will allow the students to look at the familiar with different and fresh angle that may provoke new thoughts.
Course/Module aims:
• Present the main themes of the Sociological thoughts
• Develop skills of understanding and analyzing of different societies in general and the Israeli society in particular.
• Uncover different and new perspectives at the familiar daily lives.
Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
The students will (TSW) be capable of using sociological tools in order to observe the reality.
TSW be able to identify varied social processes and powers that affect his/her daily lives.
TSW discuss theories and concepts and learn to imply them on the Israeli society.
