Course/Module description:
The course discusses the significance of open spaces and their public values, and policy measures that contribute to their preservation.

Course/Module aims:
Acquire basic knowledge about landscapes in Israel: their characteristics, condition, statutory status, significance, potential threats. How the concept of protection and preservation of open spaces evolved in Israel and in universal norms. Means for protection of open spaces through legislation and planning. Basic knowledge in examination of spatial schemes at different scales refering to open spaces. Development policy, land uses and conservation in the past and present, and their actual impact on open spaces preservation. Policies and measures for sustainable development - promoting values of nature and environment.

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
Basic knowledge of landscapes in Israel, their different designations and various means for protection.
Knowledge about spatial planning schemes, laws and official administration of open spaces.
Describe the policy for open spaces in Israel
