Course/Module description:
The course outlines the development of the Israeli economy since its independence. It examines the question why, despite of the technological leap and the fundamental changes in its structure over the last decades, Israeli output per capita is lower than that of most of the developed economies whereas inequality is larger.
Course/Module aims:
There are tow purposes for the course. The first is to describe the development of the economy in Israel since the country's birth to the present with emphasis on the current period with reference to a number of questions : Why has emerged in Israel during the first decades command economy all - so what was the reason for the disintegration of the economic system in the mid- eighties. Why today , some sixty years after statehood , Israel's per capita GDP is still lower than that of most developed countries and whether the Israeli economy is expected to close the gap in the coming years . The second purpose , integrated foremost, is to know the structure of the economy , the contours of the financial system and capital market reforms in recent years, and the macroeconomic aggregates international comparison
