Course/Module description:
In the course, students will learn of pathogens and disease transmitted from animals to humans (zoonotic infections). The life cycle, infection cycle, pathogenesis and epidemiology of the disease will be covered.
Course/Module aims:
The aims of the course is close acquaintance of the students with the bio-threats that humans face when encountering and handling wild and domesticated animals, including their identification, prevention and treatment.
Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
At the end of the course, the students will be able to: suspect a zoonotic infection when they encounter a person suspected of having such infection. They will be able to refer a potential patient to the proper medical authority, and educate people handling animals regarding the potential health threats from these animals.

1) Introduction to zoonotic infections and discussion of a pathogen making a successful "jump" to humans: HIV.
2) Treatment of animal bites.
3) Psittacosis and avian flu.
4) Plague and tularemia.
5) Zoonotic spirochetes.
6) Rickettsia and bartonella
7) Food pathogens: listeria, salmonella, e.coli and campylobacter.
8) Leishmania and eichinococcus.
9) Disease from pigs: trichinella and taenia solium.
10) Brucellosis
11) Q fever and hemorrhagic fevers.
12) Anthrax
