תאור כללי של הקורס:
The cornerstone of the studies and teaching of Judaism, at all levels and in different educational institutions, are the Jewish classical texts. One of the aspects that has characterized the Jewish people since the beginning of its history has been the large number and variety of texts that it has produced and that today constitute the millennial cultural legacy of this people. The classical Jewish library is made up of different literary genres, some better known and taught than others.
This course will include three fundamental aspects: a cultural-historical overview of some of the main post-biblical classical Jewish literary genres, including rabbinic literature at the time of the Mishnah and the Talmud, the texts of the Midrash, the legal codes, the Medieval Jewish thought and the ethical literature. Second, students will study and analyze representative texts from each of these literary genres. And finally, there will be a didactic emphasis regarding the different ways of approaching and teaching those texts within contemporary Jewish schools in Latin America. In this sense, this course aims to enrich both the knowledge, the analytical capacity, as well as to expand the pedagogical tools for the teaching of Jewish classic texts.
An additional challenge for the Jewish educator who teaches students who do not master the original languages of classical Jewish literature (Hebrew and Aramaic), is the difficulty of accessing these texts. In this course, students will also receive general instruction on access translations of these classic texts, including printed editions and digital resources.
The course will be taught at a distance and will include synchronous and asynchronous teaching: Classes via zoom, forums, individual exercises and group exercises

At the end of the course, students:
1) Will be familiar with classic post-biblical Jewish literary genres.
2) Will have general knowledge regarding the central characteristics of each of these genres.
3) Will know how to access the main texts of each of these literary genres.
4) Will have the basic tools to understand and analyze classical Jewish texts.
5) Will have exercised different ways of teaching post-biblical classical Jewish texts.
6) Will be able to design programs for the teaching of classical texts according to the needs and characteristics of educational institutions in Latin America.
