Course/Module description:
The main topics of the course are IP rights in Israel, especially Industrial Property rights.
Course/Module aims:
Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
The students will have basic and practical knowledge of Intellectual Property Law, in particular Industrial Property. The students will acquire basic knowledge regarding the relevant Israeli legislation and Intl. treaties. The students will be acquainted with the Israeli and foreign Institutions dealing with IP and should be able to analyze cases and practical questions in IP.

Course/Module Content:
1. IP rights and their purposes.
Institutions – ILPO, WIPO, WTO.
The territoriality of IP rights and their global perspective.
2. Patents – justification, patentability, construction, examination procedures, oppositions, infringement and remedies, PCT, PTEs.
3. Trade secrets.
4. Trademarks – purpose and functions, conditions for registration, special marks, examination procedures, oppositions, Madrid Protocol.
5. Passing off.
6. Industrial Designs (according to the 1924 Act and the New Designs Law), examination, Hague Agreement.
7. Copyright (justification, eligibility for protection, infringement.
8. Rights in performances, broadcasting and publicity; overlapping of IP rights.
