Course/Module description:
The workshop is based on the lectures of the best professors and researchers in the fields of classical Jewish law and related areas such as philosophy, history of the Jewish People, and Talmud.
The lectures include, among others, presenting basic and key concepts and positions of Jewish law, literature and research articles review and the central issue in-depth study of the subject being studied.
Before the lecture students are asked to read the discussed article, and submit a summary and comment/criticism.
Course/Module aims:
A. Familiarity with a variety of up-to-date research in Jewish law.
B. Creation of Critical reading habits in Jewish law.
C.. Introduction to a variety of research methods to extend the scope of legal research towards Jewish law.
The workshop serves as bridge between the introductory course on Jewish law (1st year), which deals mainly in the general framework of Jewish law and various elective courses that focus mainly on specific areas of Jewish law. It means to give graduate student in Jewish Law an Introduction to research options and methods.
Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
1. Explain the structure and moves of an article in Jewish Law
2. Distinguish between different types of arguments
3. Assess the nature and quality of an argument in an article in Jewish Law.
4. Formulate reasoned criticism on an article in Jewish Law
