Course/Module description:
The course introduces the cinema as a medium for critical review of the legal system from a cultural perspective, reflecting the law as well as constructing it. The course will focus on presenting a humanistic critique of the law as a political sight serving to maintain the interests of hegemonic groups. Course will touch upon topics such as lawyering imagery, law and gender, capitalism and many others.
Course/Module aims:
Expand the students’ overly legalistic interest spectrum and introducing them to non-traditional, cultural criticism of the legal system.
Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
Students will be able to identify the cinematic medium as a tool significant for analyzing the socio-legal processes traditionally not related to as formal “law”. Gazing at the law through a cinematic lens, they will be equipped with the ability to conceptualize it as a cultural construct, limited by nature and subject to non-legal criticism.

Teaching arrangement and method of instruction:
The sessions will normally contain two main parts: after watching a movie in the first part of class, a rigorous and detailed discussion thereof will follow in the second part. Legal reading material will be assigned every movie, to enable a discussion of the movie from an interdisciplinary perspective.
