Course/Module description:
The Course is intended to introduce to students the art of appearing in court, with an emphasis on civil proceedings. As part of the course sessions, judges and additional lawyers will be invited as guests, who will enrich the students with their experience and knowledge in the various areas in which they engage.

Course/Module aims:
During the year, the students will experience all the skills required of a litigator, including becoming acquainted with the case, questioning the client and potential witnesses, examining the initial evidence, studying the relevant legal material, crystallising a strategy that includes the preparation of pleadings, the use of preliminary proceedings, the filing of interim applications, including applications for interim remedies, the examination of witnesses and oral and written argumentation in court. In addition, there will be examined within the framework of the Course also issues arising from the professional ethical arena with which a litigator is required to deal, as part of his occupation.

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
1. Analysing files;
2. Crystallising a strategy, including handling the case;
3. Drafting pleadings, interim applications and preparing preliminary proceedings;
4. Drafting and preparing the examination of witnesses;
5. Appearance in court;
6. Examining professional ethical issues.

Course/Module Content:
1. The position of a lawyer engaging in litigation in the legal arena—his obligations towards his client, the counterparty and the court;
2. Taking on a client, learning the facts, learning the relevant legal material and crystallising a strategy for the case, selecting the appropriate proceeding and drafting pleadings;
3. Dismissal in limine;
4. Admissions, interrogatories, discovery of documents, further particulars;
5. Pre-trial;
6. Order for the submission of affidavits;
7. Perusing rejected documents;
8. Administrative petitions

The Course is intended for students who are interested in participating in a practical course that will allow them to become experienced in the routine work of a lawyer engaging in litigation.
