Course/Module description:
The course will deal with different concepts of human rights while focusing mainly on the effects of human rights violations on Israeli society and on the methods used by human rights organizations. The first part of the course will examine the universality of human rights norms: we will study the main theories, the major instruments of international human rights law, and the international mechanism of human rights enforcement. In the second part we will focus on human rights in Israel. The course combines both theories of human rights and eight weekly hours of internship at a human rights organization. In class we will analyze the academic texts as well as dilemmas arising from internship at the organizations.

Course/Module aims:
Combining theoretical knowledge of human rights and knowledge from the field of action.

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
- Analyze an academic article about human rights.
- Critically read court rulings.
- Write an academic paper which combines theory and knowledge learnt in the internship at a human rights organization.
