תאור כללי של הקורס:
קורס זה בוחן את הקשרים המורכבים בין פשיעה חמורה, מדיניות ציבורית והמקום של הקהילה. התלמידים יחקרו את טיבם ושכיחותם של פשעים חמורים, לרבות עבירות אלימות ופשיעה חמורה, תוך ניתוח ביקורתי של תפקידה של מדיניות ציבורית בטיפול בעבירות אלה.

מטרות הקורס:
נושאים מרכזיים כוללים את השפעת הפשיעה על קהילות, האפקטיביות של אסטרטגיות אכיפת החוק, וההשלכות של מדיניות ציבורית שונות, כגון תוכניות למניעת פשע ומיזמים משותפים. באמצעות תיאורי מקרה ודוגמאות מהעולם האמיתי, התלמידים יעמדו על האסטרטגיות המובילות להתמודד עם פשיעה וללמוד על הגורמים החברתיים-כלכליים התורמים לפשיעה, כמו גם על נקודות המבט של חברי הקהילה המושפעים מפעילויות פליליות.

בסיומו של קורס זה, סטודנטים יהיו מסוגלים:

עד סוף הקורס, התלמידים ירכשו הבנה מקיפה כיצד מדיניות ציבורית יכולה להפחית פשיעה ולקדם את בטיחות הקהילה ואת החשיבות של מעורבות קהילתית בעיצוב אסטרטגיות יעילות למניעת פשיעה. גישה בין-תחומית זו תכין את התלמידים לחשוב באופן ביקורתי על פתרונות לפשיעה חמורה והשלכותיה החברתיות הרחבות יותר.
