Course/Module description:
This course is designed to impart knowledge in academic research in the social science a whole and in criminological research in particular
Course/Module aims:
The course has three main sub-objectives:
(1) Providing theoretical knowledge about research in the social sciences in general and in criminology in particular - what are the main research principles, what are the main research methods and the advantages and disadvantages of each method.
(2) Impart the students the ability to read and analyze academic research - The structure of the article, the theory underlying it, the structure of the research and the research's main findings.
(3) Providing the students the ability to conduct research in criminology - conducting quantitative research, survey.
Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
(1) The students will be able to conduct a quantitative research, survey
(2) The students will be able to conduct a qualitative research, interview
(3) The students will know how to build experimental research
be able to conduct a qualitative research, survey know how to to read empirical articles in the social sciences, analyze them and hold a critical reading of the article, based on what the learned in the course.
(4) The students will know how to read SPSS outputs (descriptive and statistical inference) and write a short research report based on this data.
(5) The student will be able to read empirical researches
