Course/Module description:
Introduction of fundamental issues in Forensic Science and their contribution to criminal investigation; Basic introduction to the scientific techniques used by Forensic Scientists.
Course/Module aims:
Criminology students will acquire basic knowledge of Forensic Science, its methods and contribution to the wide framework of the criminal investigation.
Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
To understand the importance of Forensic Science and appreciate the performance strategy of the Forensic Scientist; Consider the possible contribution of Forensic science to their work as criminologists.

Class lectures with Power point presentations.
Course/Module Content:
Historic overview; Basic concepts; Crime scene investigation; The use of field kits; Scientific evaluation of exhibits in the lab: Chemical, biological, physical and engineering techniques; Forensic databases and their utilization; Comparative evidence of all sorts; Forensic expert opinion and ethics; Identification of victims of terror events and mass disasters; Forensic intelligence; Glance at investigative Psychology etc.
