Course/Module description:
This course seeks to develop and deepen academic reading and writing skills, to offer students useful tools for critical reading of texts and writing academic papers. Throughout the course we will become acquainted with academic essays of different types, we will learn how to locate relevant publications and how to use them, we will analyze academic texts, and we will learn and apply the rules of academic reading and writing. In addition, we will discuss the characteristics of the academic environment, and specifically the aspect of ethics and discipline in academia.

Course/Module aims:
1. Provide students with a basic orientation on the role and structure of the university as well as academic studies at the Criminology Institute.
2. To provide students with standards and skills for writing academic text in criminology.
3. Train students to easily identify, locate, classify and read academic articles.
4. Practice writing academic text and identifying its structure.
5. Locate and cite science sources in accordance with APA rules.
6. Develop student attitude and awareness of the values of ethics and discipline in the academic setting.

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
To identify an academic text and distinguish it from other genres.
To use academic terminology properly.
To locate relevant academic publications through electronic databases.
To Identify the structure of an academic essay.
To recognize the characteristics of academic writing and their application.
To use sources in a manner consistent with the citation and ethics rules.
To recognize the requirements of ethics and proper academic behavior.
