Course/Module description:
In this course, we will get acquainted with key characteristics of the Israeli society and uniquely with the social diversity and the challenges that this diversity poses to us. As part of the course, we will learn about Israeli society's various groups and the central tensions that accompany this cultural, national, and political mosaic. We will discuss key sociological approaches during the course, and through them, we will critically examine the salient rifts in Israeli society. Our discussion will highlight key issues such as society and state, ethnicity, religiosity, ethnicity, and more. Lastly, we will examine various case studies from the local Israeli reality.
Course/Module aims:
Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
1. Critical observation of the key characteristics of Israeli society.
2. Familiarity with different groups in Israeli society and the challenges arising from cultural diversity.
3. Discussion of public policy in the context of national and political-cultural diversity.
