תאור כללי של הקורס:
המלאכה הדיפלומטית כיום חיונית – ועם זאת, מורכבת, רבת פנים ורווית מהמורות. קורס זה חותר להפגיש את הסטודנט עם אתגריה המרכזיים, באמצעות התמקדות בארבעה מכלולים. המכלול הראשון מצביע על אילוצים ומוקשים בין-תרבותיים שמציבה הזירה הבינלאומית בפני הדיפלומט. המכלול השני מדגיש כיצד מהפכת התקשורת המואצת מכריחה את הדיפלומט להקדיש יותר מאמצים הן לעיצוב דעת הקהל מבית ומחוץ, והן לשימור יכולתו להשפיע מול מתחרים מתעצמים מבית. המכלול השלישי מפרט אסטרטגיות דיפלומטיות בסיסיות, ואילו הרביעי בוחן מספר הזדמנויות וקשיים הכרוכים במשימת מפתח של הדיפלומט, מאז ומתמיד: קידום יישובם, או לכל הפחות ניהולם, של סכסוכים בינלאומיים.
הקורס יסקור, אמנם, מוסדות דיפלומטיים, אולם בעיקרו של דבר יתמקד בהמלצות העשויות לשפר את יעילות העשייה הדיפלומטית בעולמנו הגלובלי. זאת, באמצעות לקחים מן הניסיון ההיסטורי וממקרי בוחן קריטיים השאובים הן מן ההקשר הגלובלי והן מן ההקשר המזרח-תיכוני.

להציג את מורכבות המלאכה הדיפלומטית ולספק כלים לשפר את יעילותה.
