תאור כללי של הקורס:
הקורס עוסק בהשפעה שיש לתפיסות של ביטחון על פרקטיקות של ביטחון באירופה מאז סיום מלחמה"ע ה-2 ועד ימינו. הקורס יתמקד תחילה בתפיסת הביטחון "הצרה" ו"המסורתית" שאפיינה את אירופה המודרנית כגון "דילמת הביטחון", "מאזני כוחות" ו"ביטחון קיבוצי", תפיסות שבאו לידי ביטוי בבריתות שאפיינו את אירופה בראשית המאה ה-20 על רקע מלחמות העולם, והקמתה של ברית נאט"ו בעידן שלאחר מלחמות העולם ובמשך תקופת המלחמה הקרה.
בהמשך, הקורס יעסוק בשינוי שחל בשיח ובתפיסת הביטחון האירופאית לאור השינוי בזירה האסטרטגית האירופאית בפרט והבינלאומית בכלל בתחילת שנות ה-90' המעצבים במידה מרובה את התפיסה האסטרטגית החדשה של נאט"ו (NATO) כארגון ביטחון קולקטיבי, את הארגון לביטחון ושיתוף פעולה (OSCE) באירופה, כמו גם את יחסה של אירופה לסוגיות של מלחמות הומניטריות, טרור וסוגיית ההגירה לתוכה.

מטרות הקורס:
1. לתאר נקודות ציון עיקריות בהתפתחות תפיסת הביטחון באירופה לאור התפתחויות היסטוריות ותרבותיות באירופה בפרט וביחסים-הבינלאומיים בכלל.
2. להכיר מושגים תיאורטיים חדשים מתחום לימודי הביטחון כגון "ביטחון שיתופי", "קהילות ביטחון", "ביטחון אנושי" וביטחון אונתולוגי.
3. לנתח את השינוי שחל בשיח ובתפיסת הביטחון האירופאית (שינוי המוכר כהגדרה מחדש של מושג הביטחון) לאור השינוי בזירה האסטרטגית האירופאית בפרט והבינלאומית בכלל בתחילת שנות ה-90'.

תוצרי למידה :
בסיומו של קורס זה, סטודנטים יהיו מסוגלים:
1. להעריך השפעתן של תפיסת תיאורטיות, תרבותיות ונורמטיביות על פרקטיקות של ביטחון באירופה ובכלל.
2.להסביר את הקשר שבין תפיסות ביטחון לפרקטיקות שיתופיות מחד, אל מול פרקטיקות אנטגוניסטיות מאידך. באירופה ובכלל.
