תאור כללי של הקורס:
הקורס מבקש לבחון כיצד עוצבו תפישות של "המלחמה הצודקת" והשתנו לאורך ההיסטוריה לאור תפישות ומבנים חברתיים ותרבותיים באירופה החל בימי הביניים, עבור במאה ה-18 וכלה בימנו אנו. בחינה זו היא רלוונטית לאין שיעור בזמנים אלו בהם נבחנת שאלת צדקתן של "המלחמה ההומניטרית", המלחמה המונעת (preemptive war), והמלחמה בטרור הגלובלי, הקוראות תגר נגד ההבנות הקונבנציונליות של המלחמה הצודקת.

מטרות הקורס:
1. היכרות עם התיאוריה של המלחמה הצודקת בספרות של היחסים הבינלאומיים מאז ראשית היווצרותה, דרך השינויים שעברה בתקופות היסטוריות מרכזיות ועד ימינו.
2. היכרות אמפירית והיסטורית של מבנים תרבותיים וחברתיים מרכזיים על התפתחות התיאוריה של המלחמה הצודקת באירופה ובזירה הבינלאומית.
3. ניתוח התפיסה של המלחמה הצודקת באמצעות הפרדיגמות המרכזיות ביחסים הבינלאומיים כגון הגישה הגרוציאנית, הגישה הקונסטרוקטיביסטית והגישה הביקורתית.

תוצרי למידה :
בסיומו של קורס זה, סטודנטים יהיו מסוגלים:
1. לזהות ולתאר תקופות קריטיות בהתפתחותה של המלחמה הצודקת.
2. להעריך השפעתה של תרבות ותהליכים חברתיים על תימות מרכזיות במחקר היחב"ל ובעיקר על התימה של המלחמה הצודקת.
3. לדון ב-/ולבקר את השפעתה של התימה של המלחמה הצודקת על מלחמות ושלום לאורך ההיסטוריה של היחסים הבינלאומיים כגון מסעות הצלב, התערבויות הומניטריות, המלחמה בטרור ותהליכי שלום בסיומן של מלחמות.
. ליישם את הנלמד בכיתה לגבי אופן השפעתה של המלחמה הצודקת על מקרים אמפיריים נוספים מלבד אלו שנידונו בקורס.
5. לשפוט מלחמות אחרות מאלו שנידונו בכיתה במונחים של תיאוריית המלחמה הצודקת.
